Using the stairs is an important task and one that quite often can lead to serious injury or even death. In fact a fall on the stairs is the number one cause of hospitalization among Americans over 65, so it is very important to take measures to prevent these types of accidents.

Quite frequently, the stair lift is found to be the best resource to improve safety and freedom. The reason it improves freedom is that people are no longer forced to rely on others to help on the stairs. Instead they can simply activate the stair lift and be effortlessly carried to the 2nd story landing or back to the ground floor.

While improving freedom and independence is a very important task, the role that a stair lift plays in improving safety is probably its most important task. Since an individual is no longer has to take the risk of climbing the stairs, one of the most dangerous places in the home is effectively controlled.

These lifting aids are used indoors primarily, but some models can be used both indoors and outdoors. These models are completely weatherproofed and can be used in all climates. They cost a little more, but this is because they have been specially treated to be resistant to moisture and rust.
