Since a large number of homes have staircases, if you find that you are not able to utilize you stairway then this can mean being unable to use your home to its full extent. Rather than install an elevator, which can be expensive, or simply avoid the upstairs part of your home, many people choose to install a stairway lift.
Stair lifts are devices that are designed to carry its occupant up the stairs. They usually use a chair, so the stair lift user simply sits down and they will be safely carried up the stairs. A hand control is directly attached to the stair lift and this control is used to move the lift.
The control uses a constant pressure system to increase safety. This requires that the occupant of the lift to constantly push the button in order for the lift to move. In addition to an attached hand control, many of today’s lifts also come with two wireless remote controls as well. These are usually mounted at the each of the landings, which allows them to be used as call buttons.
Using a stair lift is one of the ways that it is possible to increase safety and independence. For a straight staircase, it presents a cost effective method of increasing safety. Also there is usually not much home modification required when installing the lift.
